As you draft your fantasy football squad this weekend, we want you to relax, have fun, and realize that all the touts who seem so *certain* about everything will be proven wrong in under a week. Draft players you like, the ones you think are good -- you will make mistakes because we all do, but then we'll spend the entire season reviewing tape and fixing them. For today, we'll talk about roster construction early in drafts by rating each player in the ADP top 36 from 1-to-10: how *risky* are they? 8/27/25: Handicapping The NFL In 2025 & Cutdown Day
NFL Cutdown Day happened on Tuesday, and...it was a little underwhelming? At least in terms of big names changing teams, Cutdown Day didn't really deliver. But we *did* get some pretty big roster news elsewhere, with players who did and didn't wind up going on PUP lists and IR lists. We'll handle that material, we'll read Brian Robinson's *new* Almanac profile, and then we'll have a look at the handicapping market for the NFL in 2025. What team win totals do we like and not like, who do we like to lead the major stat categories, are there player props we like, etc. Fun show! 8/26/25: Players We Might Be Wrong About!
Let's not be touts! We can't see the future, and predicting sports is hard. It's important to acknowledge the assumptions that get baked into our fantasy football draft ranks and our assessments of NFL players and offenses. So that's what we'll do today: we'll sift through our 2025 ranks and come up with five players we absolutely could wind up being wrong about. 8/25/25: Late-Round Players We Love For 2025
By now, we've done a heck of a lot of drafts, mock and otherwise. So we have some personal anecdotes about the players *we* have tended to draft in the later rounds. That'll be today's discussion: where we think the soft spots are in the double-digit rounds of fantasy football drafts in 2025. We'll list QBs, RBs and WRs we love taking late. 8/20/25: Safe Players To Draft In 2025
Sometimes unsexy is good! On today's podcast, we'll discuss the merits of drafting *safe* players. If your draft strategies sometimes involve selecting risky players in early rounds -- and they should! -- it can make sense to find some high-floor players in the early/middle rounds who can present a smoother ride. We'll select one safe player per round, and discuss! Rookies usually get drafted too high for fantasy football. But there are absolutely exceptions to this rule. *A few* 2025 rookies will probably make a big splash and potential swing leagues. Can we identify them? Well, maybe *we* can't, but often Matt Waldman can. We'll dig into the big rookie names who are getting drafted to be fantasy starters, and the potential values among rookies who are going in later rounds. We always say we'll draft any player...at the right price. But there are some players whose prices seem so "off" to us, there's no way we'll get them. That's how busts are born! Just because drafting a player in fantasy football is stressful, doesn't mean we won't do it. But it's good to know what you're getting into! Sometimes you just wanna sit back and watch the players play. There are some insane athletes in the NFL, and some of them just have that little extra something that makes them glorious to behold. They aren't necessarily perfect fantasy options, they might not even be draftable in some cases, but we've enjoyed watching them so much. High-variance players are tough! On the one hand, you understand how they can be important starters on your fantasy football team. On the other hand, it's terrifying to trust them! That's the conundrum we have when we think about Swing Players: players who have so much upside and so much downside that they can swing the results of your league all by themselves. That's our list today: Swing Players for 2025. Plus we'll review the news about Keenan Allen and some injured backup running backs, and get more invites to things! Offensive lines matter! Of course they do, they're the bedrock of NFL offenses, and the skill players we draft in fantasy football rely on their o-lines to produce big numbers. Unfortunately, we're not always great a *predicting* which o-lines will be great or disastrous. Then again, we didn't play o-line in the NFL! But today's guest did, and he'll list a few lines he's excited about and a few that give him pause. In addition, we'll talk through the latest NFL news, and also refer to some of the highest and lowest Almanac grades we gave this year.
